Along with FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Award, the FIFA FIFPro World 11 was also named at the glitzy gala in Zurich tonight.
The team is voted for by fellow professional players, and is highly regarded and valued.
It’s an incredibly strong team, and as ever, there’s one overriding theme…
Dominated by La Liga’s Big 2
As has been the case over the past few years, the FIFPro team is dominated by players from La Liga’s big 2, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Bayern Munich’s sweeper-keeper Manuel Neuer is named in goal, in front of what is essentially a Madrid-Barcelona back 4 – Dani Alves now plays for Juventus, but gets in the team based on his performances for Barcelona.
In midfield, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Andres Iniesta feature.
And up front it’s 2 Barcelona men in Neymar and Leo Messi, alongside Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Once again, the elephant in the room, or perhaps not in the room to be more accurate, is the absence of Premier League players from the team – the so-called best league in the world…
