South American publisher Confidential Colombia have an “exclusive” story on their website on Wednesday on how James Rodriguez rejected a bid to join Chelsea.
James recently confirmed that he’s staying put with Los Blancos following several months of speculation linking him with a departure from the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Colombian star has struggled to lock down a place in Zinedine Zidane’s team, but he’s made it clear, following the recent FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, that he’s staying in Madrid for the time being.
So what happened?
According to Confidential Colombia, Chelsea did post a bid to sign James in recent times.
The Blues reportedly made a 90 million euro offer for the playmaker.
Perhaps more incredibly, Real Madrid reportedly “stepped aside” to allow James the choice of accepting or rejecting the offer.
The player took a week to think over the decision, but he eventually decided to stay put with Real.
And why did James reject Chelsea?
Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly instrumental in keeping the midfielder at the club.
The Portuguese star, who is labelled as one of James’s “confidants” at the Santiago Bernabeu, advised him to remain with Los Blancos.
Ronaldo’s job was reportedly made harder by the fact Chelsea offered James an increase in his salary to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
