Bad news for Chelsea: Six first team stars out v Tottenham

Spurs haven’t even played their first match of the new Premier League season, and already the interest around next weekend’s London derby is growing fast.

Tottenham travel to St James’ Park  to welcome Newcastle back to the top flight, while they follow that up taking on Chelsea in their first home match at Wembley.

Antonio Conte

Chelsea, meanwhile, began the season losing a crazy match.

Burnley won 3-2 at Stamford Bridge after being 3-up at the break, while Antonio Conte’s men ended up with just nine men on the field after Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were sent off in each half.

That’s left Conte – who has been complaining about Chelsea’s squad size all summer – with an incredibly thin selection for the Spurs game.

Six players are out

Conte will be without six potential first team players for the Spurs game.

After their dismissals against Burnley, bot Cahill and Fabregas will be banned from playing at Wembley.

Eden Hazard is still injured on the sidelines, as is summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Pedro, who suffered a nasty face injury in pre-season, is also likely to be out of the Tottenham game, while there remains no way back for Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge.

So how will Chelsea line up?

The early guesses of how Conte deals with his current selection crisis, could be for David Luiz to step into midfield against Spurs.

Mauricio Pochettino, Dele Alli and Christian Erisken could all be very happy if that’s the case.

Alvaro Morata will surely start against Spurs after his fine debut v Burnley, while Victor Moses will return after his suspension.

Andreas Christensen is likely to have another shot at impressing at centre-half.

Chelsea likely XI v Tottenham: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Alonso, Kante, Luiz, Moses, Willian, Morata, Batshuayi.
