There were “tears on both sides” when the Duchess of SusS3x’s female protection officer handed in her notice. Meghan’s bodyguard is believed to be leaving the Metropolitan Police due to personal reasons. The Duchess’s protection officer sprang into action last October during Meghan’s Commonwealth tour with Prince Harry.
Meghan’s bodyguard notably escorted her out of a busy market in Fiji due to a security scare.
But the Scotland Yard inspector – who has not been named for security reasons – has reportedly left the role after just six months.
Tears over the departure have been revealed by a source to The Sun.
But Meghan’s wish to be “one of the people” is said to cause problems for her security team.
A Scotland Yard source told The Times: “Unlike someone who has grown up in the Royal Family and has been used to close protection from an early age, having it can be quite constraining.
“Even though she was a famous actress, she could still do what she wanted in the way of getting around freely.
“But in her current role she can’t go anywhere without her protection team and that’s a massive constraining force on an individual like her.”
The departure of Meghan’s bodyguard has raised questions as she is the third member of staff to leave the Duchess in a matter of months.
Last December it emerged that Samantha Cohen, Meghan’s personal secretary, was leaving after 17 years working for the royals.
At the time, an insider said: “Sam will be a huge loss. Going forward, Meghan might need someone cut from a slightly different cloth to traditional courtiers, who is not a career civil servant or royal insider.”
It came after Meghan’s personal assistant Melissa Toubati quit her role after being left “in tears” by the pressures of the job following the royal wedding in May.
Ms Toubati had previously worked for Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field.
Speaking to the Mirror, a source previously said: “Her job was highly pressurised and in the end it became too much. She put up with quite a lot. Meghan put a lot of demands on her and it ended up with her in tears.
“She is hugely talented and played a pivotal role in the success of the royal wedding. She’ll be missed by everyone in the household.
“Melissa is a total professional and fantastic at her job, but things came to a head and it was easier for them both to go their separate ways.”
The resignations come amid rumours Meghan has been nicknamed “Duchess Difficult” and “Hurricane Meghan” by royal aides.
And Harry reportedly shouted at palace staff “What Meghan wants, she gets!” ahead of their Windsor wedding last May, prompting the Queen to pull her grandson aside for a word.
