Spanish paper AS have raised expectations of Manchester United fans over a possible double defensive signing that would completely reshape the look of their side.
According to AS, Valencia’s Argentine centre-half Nicolas Otamendi is very close to joining Man United, while Louis van Gaal plans to partner the Los Che player with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
With Matteo Darmian also set to join the ranks at Old Trafford, Man United’s backline could look markedly different in 2015-16 compared to last season.
Returning to Otamendi, AS note that Real Madrid’s interest in the 27-year-old appears to be dwindling. In his stead, Los Blancos are now said to have an interest in Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay.
Fleshing out the Real Madrid update, Los Blancos are now less keen on signing Otamendi as he is a non-EU player. Garay, meanwhile, has a European Union passport.
Moving on, AS also note that Real Madrid are considering a move for Espanyol’s keeper Kiko Casilla should David De Gea remain at Man United.
