Ngige, Uba, others meet as crisis hits South-East APC

The  All Progressives Congress in the South-East has been  allegedly  plunged into crisis  over the move to fill the vacant post of  National Auditor of the party.

The position became vacant after  Chief George Moghalu’s appointment as  Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority.

The South-East  APC Zonal Working Committee headed by Emma Eneukwu  has been  accused by some members of the party, particularly   the Anambra APC Media Community,  of hijacking the replacement  process, forcing  leaders of the party in Anambra State  to call an emergency meeting for today to resolve the issue.

Our correspondent learnt  that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, Dr Andy Uba and Dr Tony Nwoye are among the  APC chiefs  expected at the meeting.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Friday, the leader of the Anambra APC Media Community, Pascal Otimkpu, said the Aneukwu panel  had thrown open the position of the APC National Auditor originally zoned  to Anambra to the other  states in the  zone, allegedly  asking each   contestant to pay  N2m as nomination fee.

Otimkpu said, “Before now, the state chapter of the party had concluded plans to make the process free,  fair and credible and as such started with its own process of filling the vacant position.

“But now we are reliably informed that the South-East APC led by  Emma Eneukwu has concluded plans to impose N2m as nomination fee on  each aspirant to  be allowed to contest  the position.

“He has moved party meetings to the  Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Owerri, where he intends to achieve his agenda.

“This is callous and sadist action (N2m nomination fee). It is also illegal and unconstitutional. This is totally strange to the letters of our party’s constitution.

“The office of The zonal chairman is not empowered to collect such fees.  This cannot be allowed to stand. It is not within the rights of the zonal chairman to impose such fees.”
